Modern Parable will Teach Children and Adults Alike to be Clay in the 'Potter's' Hands

E AMHERST, Ny., Aug. 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- Kenneth Metzger has written a book for children with imagery that draws on an analogy in the Bible. Interestingly enough, the analogy relates to his own life as well.

Diagnosed with cancer, Metzger underwent many weeks of radiation followed by chemotherapy. Although he was given only a fifty percent chance of survival, he has now been cancer free for four years. He credits his recovery to "God's grace and the love and support of my awesome wife."

In his book, "The Potter's Perfect Piece", Metzger uses the analogy of a piece of clay lying smugly on a shelf. The author gives the clay a voice, which the old man who works with the clay cannot hear. As the clay is massaged, it enjoys the process. When it is spun, it appeals for mercy. When fingers shape it, it cries out in pain. When exposed to the fire...that's another story. In the end, the clay is proud of what it becomes and is given as a gift to a king.

Metzger puts the cookies on the lower shelf where children can understand the meaning when either they read it or an adult reads it to them. The author wrote out of the experiences of his life. Much like the fictional account, his real-life story is reflected in the pages of his book. Metzger himself is the central character whose life experience inspired him to write the story.

The author's biblical basis for his story is twofold, from both Old and New Testaments. Jeremiah chapter 18 contains the account of the potter and the clay. And John 16:33 reads, "In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart. I have overcome the world."

Metzger's pastor said this about "The Potter's Perfect Piece". "Read this book to your children and grandchildren, but pay close attention. There's something in there for everyone."
